Anastrepha megacantha View in CoL clade

Diagnosis. Species of the megacantha clade differ from other species of Anastrepha by their pattern of dorsobasal denticles on the eversible membrane, with one medial denticle much larger than the others. The clade belongs to the mucronota species group and may be most closely related to species such as A. lanceola Stone , which have several medial denticles of the eversible membrane somewhat larger than the others. Other useful diagnostic characters include: C-band and S-band separate or connected only anteriorly in cell r1; vein R2+3 sinuous; proctiger with ventral and lateral sclerotized areas connected; and aculeus tip narrow, less than 0.10 mm wide. The group includes A. megacantha Zucchi and the following new species: A. hadracantha , A. haplacantha , A. hyperacantha , A. inaequalis , and A. macracantha .
