Anisophyllea View in CoL vs. Anisophyllum

Anisophyllea View in CoL was established by R.Brown ex Sabine (1824: 446) in Rhizophoraceae View in CoL without any description. It consisted only one species, A. laurina R.Brown ex Sabine (1824: 446) View in CoL , which is distributed in Africa and is noted for the peculiar arrangement of the dimorphic leaves, the elliptical, oblong, deeply five-nerved large leaves, and the minute linear acute stipule-like small leaves ( Sabine 1824). Overlooking this publication Bentham (in Hooker & Bentham 1849) established for that very plant the genus Anisophyllum Don ex Bentham (in Hooker & Bentham 1849: 342), and named the species Anisophyllum laurinum Bentham (in Hooker & Bentham 1849: 342). In the addenda and corrigenda to that volume, Don ex Bentham’s name was however abandoned and Brown’s was restored. Baillon (1862) applied the generic name Anisophyllum to three plants, Anisophyllum laurinum in Africa, Anisophyllum zeylanicum View in CoL [= A. cinnamomoides (Gardner & Champion) Alston (1931: 108) ], and Anisophyllum trapezoidale View in CoL [= A. disticha (Jack) Baillon (1875: 311) ] in Asia. Later, Baillon (1875, 1877) abandoned Anisophyllum and adopted Anisophyllea View in CoL .
