Chappuisides orientalis sp. n.

( Figs 6 A–H View FIGURE 6 A – H )

Type series. Holotype: male ( X 44822 View Materials /Ar-29), Russia, Primory Territory, Artemovsky Urban District, Steklyanukha River, N 43°21.027’; E 132°27.723’; depth 30 cm below the sediment surface; substrate: cobbles, pebbles, coarse- and medium-grained sand; 07.10.2010, leg. K.A. Semenchenko, D.A. Sidorov. Paratypes: 1 female ( X 44857 View Materials /Ar-35); 12.06.2010, same locality as holotype; 1 female ( X 44858 View Materials /Ar-36), Russia, Primory Territory, Partizansky District, Partizanskay River basin, Tigrovaya River, N 43°11.401’; E 133°12.660’; depth 30 cm below the sediment surface; substrate: cobbles, pebbles, sand; 05.08.2009, leg. K.A. Semenchenko, D.A. Sidorov.

Diagnosis. Adults. Medial edges of Cx-IV slightly separated; setae Pe located in slight indentations of medial edges of Cx-IV at level of suture line between coxal plates III and IV. Genital field in females lying on plates with irregular inner edges, slender (L/W ratio is 1,2–1,3). Setae Pi and Ci located closely on posterior edge of ventral field.

Description. Both sexes. Anterolateral ridges of dorsal shield short, setae Fch, Oi and Si longer than other dorsal setae ( Fig. 4A View FIGURE 4 A – D ; seta Fch visible in Fig. 6C View FIGURE 6 A – H ), setae Fp and Oi not associated with glandularia, other dorsal setae with glandularia. Medial edges of Cx-IV slightly separated; setae Pe located in slight indentations of medial edges of Cx-IV at level of suture line between coxal plates III and IV ( Fig. 6B, C View FIGURE 6 A – H ). Setae Pi and Ci located closely on posterior edge of ventral field on both sides of genital opening (a malformation with all setae Pi and Ci located together below genital opening is illustrated in Fig. 6D View FIGURE 6 A – H ). Gonopore longer than wide, bearing three pairs of genital acetabula; in females lying on plates with irregular inner edges ( Fig. 6C View FIGURE 6 A – H ). Genital plates in males with four pairs of lateral setae ( Fig. 6E View FIGURE 6 A – H ). Ejaculatory complex as illustrated in Figs 6F, G View FIGURE 6 A – H . P-1 ( Fig. 6H View FIGURE 6 A – H ) with one dorsodistal seta; P-2 with two ventral, one medial and two dorsodistal setae; P-3 with one distal seta, two times longer than P-3; P-4 with two short setae: distoventral and distal. Leg segments without expanded flanges distolaterally.

Male. Measurements (n=1). Dorsal shield L 580, W 396; ventral shield L 600; coxal plates L 587, W 134 (one side, midline to tip of condyle at insertion of leg IV); genital field L 94, W 68; ejaculatory complex L 132; pedipalpal segments (P–1–5) L: 14, 46, 22, 57, 25; leg segments L: I–Leg– 1–6—40, 67, 72, 89, 110, 113; II–Leg– 1–6—?,?, 70, 90, 113, 116; III–Leg missed; IV–Leg– 1–6—83, 102, 95, 117, 132, 126.

Female. Measurements (n=2). Dorsal shield L 613–617, W 416–452; ventral shield L 660–682; coxal plates L 614–660, W 145–152 (one side, midline to tip of condyle at insertion of leg IV); genital field L 154–188, W 115– 154; pedipalpal segments (P–1–5) L: 13–14, 50–54, 22–24, 60–62, 20–23; leg segments L: I–Leg– 1–6—35 –47, 54–67, 75–76, 88–92, 111–112, 113–129; II-Leg– 1–6—35 –46, 66–67, 70–72, 86–89, 114–117, 116–130; III-Leg– 1–6—42 –47, 67–71, 70–88, 82–93, 118–119, 113–136; IV-Leg–1–6—102–108, 100–115, 100–102, 118–126, 132–136, 127–129.

Differential diagnosis. Chappuisides orientalis sp. n. is closely related to the North American C. oregonensis Smith, 1992 , decribed on the basis of one male and one female ( Smith 1992). The male of C. oregonensis is a teneral specimen, and was not illustrated, the comparison with it is complicated. The female of the new species differs from the latter in the following characters (character states of C. oregonensis are given in parentheses, data taken from Smith, 1992): genital field slender, L/W ratio 1.2–1.3 (L/W ratio 1), shifted more closely to medial edges of Cx-IV; medial edges of Cx-IV shorter; dorsal shield shorter, 613–617 (690).

Etymology. The species epithet “ orientalis ” is derived from the eastern region where it was collected.

Distribution. Primory Territory, Far East of Russia.
