Genus Phreatomideopsis Schwoerbel, 1986
Type species: Phreatomideopsis arrenuripalpis Schwoerbel, 1986 , by monotypy.
Diagnosis: Female (male unknown): Dorsal shield plain and without any ornamentation, but with two very distinct, in diameter round apodemes medially from the anteriormost glandularia lying on the plate; most coxal suture lines well developed, but medial parts of line Cx-I/II little and medial suture of these plates little distinct in aged specimens; well developed ridges extending anterolaterally from region of insertion of IV-L; Cxgl-1 at posterolateral margin of Cx-II, Cxgl-2 lateral to anterior edge of gonopore; openings for insertion of IV-L without condyles; legs without swimming setae. Genital field transverse elliptical, directed posteroventrally; gonopore surrounded by a membranous area medially forming stronger lips. In lateral part, three elongate Ac on oval basal sclerites closely in touch, possibly fused, to each other. These acetabula laterally flanked by a longish sclerite anteriorly embracing Ac-1 and posteriorly reaching to mid Ac-3, bearing 3–5 fine setae. Palp: ventral side of P-4 lacking either setae or projections; P-5 terminating in three heavy, separated claw-like setae.
Remarks: This genus is certainly not closely related to the genera from neotropical South America. It shares with Xystonotus the lack of swimming setae and position of Cxgl-2 but otherwise is not similar.
Distribution: Known only from interstitial waters of a stream in the austral region of Chile.
