Omalium marginatum Say, 1832 View in CoL
Omalium marginatus View in CoL (sic): Say, 1832: 50.
Omalium marginatum Say View in CoL ; Erichson 1840: 890.
Anthobium marginatum (Say) ; Fauvel 1878: 200; Bernhauer and Schubert 1910: 40.
Eusphalerum marginatum (Say) ; Moore and Legner 1975: 191; Herman 2001: 436.
This species was attributed to Eusphalerum View in CoL (as Anthobium View in CoL ) by Fauvel (1878) on the basis of the original description that mentions for the elytra “exterior hind angles rounded, sutural ones acute”. Fauvel did not know this species directly, the type is almost surely destroyed (see Smetana and Herman 2001), and no Eusphalerum View in CoL is known from Nebraska, the state in which is located Engineer Cantonment ( Genoways and Ratcliffe 2008), the uncertain type locality (“I obtained this insect when with Major Longs expedition to the Rocky mountains: I think it occurred at Engineer Cantonment on the Missouri ” ( Say 1832)). For all these reasons Omalium marginatum Say, 1832 View in CoL must be considered a species dubia.
