Sphex songaricus Eversmann 1849: 368 (as songarica). Syntypes: Ƥ, Kazakhstan: no specific locality (in campis Kirgisorum orientalibus) (ZIN).

Sphex tenuicornis F. Morawitz 1890: 580 . Lectotype, designated here: Ƥ, Turkmenistan: Ashgabat (ZIN), examined. Prionyx songaricus: Myartseva 1972: 84 ; Bohart & Menke 1976: 134; Kazenas 1998: 123; 2002: 30; Pulawski 2012: 23.

Material examined: 72 Ƥ, 43 3 from Iran, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, and Kazakhstan. Distribution: Turkey, Israel, Syria, Iraq, Iran, Turkmenistan, Afghanistan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Kazakhstan. Remark. The lectotype of Sphex tenuicornis F. Morawitz was collected by General Alexander V. Komarov and donated to Ferdinand F. Morawitz.
