Holotype 6: Kenya, Western Province, Kakamega Forest, 0°20'N, 34°51'E, 1640 m, 14 October 2001, Jurate De Prins leg. (Bartsch gen. slide No. 2007–33) ( SMNS). GoogleMaps

Description. Alar expanse 32 mm, forewing 14 mm, antenna 15 mm and body length 18 mm.

Head: labial palpus dark brown, palpomeres 1 and 2 laterally dark crimson-red; frons brownish-grey with pearly shine, laterally white, vertex brownish-black, pericephalic hairs brownish-black, laterally white; antenna dorsally black with steel-blue gloss, subapically white, laterally reddish-brown, scapus dark grey with pearly shine, laterally with a small, crimson-red spot.

Thorax: dark crimson-red; tegulae caudally mixed with black; mesothorax with dorso-lateral tufts of black, hair-like scales. Legs: foreleg with coxa and femur brown scarcely mottled with crimson-red; tibia orange-brown; tarsus proximally white, distally black. Mid and hind leg with coxa and femur dark brown mixed with crimson-red; tibia dorsally crimson-red, dorso-mesally mixed with brown; tarsus proximally brown, distally black; last tarsomeres of hindleg as well as spurs of all legs white. Wings: almost hyaline; forewing with veins, margins and costal area brown, the latter mixed with some crimson-red scales; wing base crimson-red; discal spot rather narrow, rectangular, crimson-red, distally brown bordered; apical area absent; hindwing with discal spot reduced; veins and margins dark brown; underside of both wings reddish-brown; fringes black.

Abdomen: tergite 1 crimson-red; other tergites dark brown; sternites 1 and 2 dirty white, other sternites brownish-grey, 3 and 4 mottled with some white, black and crimson-red scales; anal tuft dorsally black, medially white, ventrally brown with white tip of scales.

Male genitalia: Tegumen long and broad, crista gnathi medialis absent, crista gnathi lateralis short, distally forming a broad, medially notched ridge; uncus with scopula androconialis short; valva ovoid, crista sacculi broad and flat, densely covered with apically bifurcate setae, distally narrow, strongly curved ventrad, without setae, at half way sharply disto-ventrally angled, with a small patch of flat-topped setae at angulation; saccus short and broad, apially flat; phallus straight, basally slightly thicker, vesica simple ( Fig. 7 View FIGURE 7 ).

Diagnosis. Lolibaia jurateae is easily distinguished from congeners, mainly based on its predominantly crimson-red colouration (black in most congeners, somewhat similar in L. salimi ) and the red, narrow rectangular discal spot (much broader and triangular in all congeners). L. salimi differs further by the lack of a subapical white stripe on the antenna, which is only somewhat brightened subapically. The male genitalia of L. jurateae differ from that of L. salimi and L. triangularis by the absences of a crista gnathi medialis and a basally curved part of the distal portion of the crista sacculi, as well as the lack of setae of the ventrally curved part of the latter, (each present in L. salimi and L. triangularis ).

Etymology. This beautiful species is named after Jurate De Prins, the collector of the only known specimen, in recognition of her outstanding contribution to the knowledge of African Lepidoptera including the development and curation of the popular scientific website, Afromoths (www.afromoths.net).
