Type species: Pipunculus fuscipes Zetterstedt, 1844 ; subsequent designation (ruling of the ICZN 2002: 143, Opinion 2000, Case 3132).

Type species: Pipunculus schreiteri Shannon, 1927 ; by original designation.

Neodorylas Kuznetzov, 1995: 326 . Junior objective synonym (ICZN 2002).

Type species: Pipunculus fuscipes Zetterstedt, 1844 ; by original designation.

More than 400 of the well over 1,300 currently described species of Pipunculidae are considered to belong to Eudorylas Aczél, 1940 . The genus has undergone some severe changes since its erection. Skevington & Yeates (2001) outline the taxonomic limits of the genus and present a detailed summary of its history, as do De Meyer & Skevington (2001). Here, it should only be noted, that the genus Neodorylas Kuznetzov, 1995 proposed by Kuznetzov (1995) as a replacement name for Eudorylas sensu Aczél (1940) was suppressed by the International Commission on Zoological Nomenclature and Pipunculus fuscipes Zetterstedt, 1844 designated as type species of Eudorylas (ICZN 2002, Opinion 2000). Hence, the usage of the genus Eudorylas sensu Aczél (1940) was conserved and Neodorylas became a junior objective synonym.
