Osbornellus obamai Domínguez & Godoy View in CoL , sp. nov.

( Figs. 44a–44e)

Description. Length: 5.6–6.6 mm. Member of the O. rarus group ( Fig. 8). Vertex angulate, median length about equal to distance between eyes at posterior margin. Vertex with wide apical transverse band on anterior margin pale yellow. With straight black mark, wide in the middle, posteriorly orange with pale spots along internal margins; coronal suture dark brown, with transverse black line at apex of coronal suture; pale yellow mark surrounded with dark brown; with slender pale yellow line at internal margins of eyes. Pronotum mottled brown. Scutellum yellow-orange with a few white marks in the lateral and distal parts of the center. Anterior wing transparent, pale yellow with white spots, veins brown; usually with brown spots along costa and commissural line.

Male genitalia: Pygofer about 1.5 times as long as greatest width; moderately projected posteriorly, apex widely concave; macrosetae long, dispersed along apical third of pygofer ( Fig.44a). Valve margins rounded, slightly curved in anterior half. Plates long, base wide, tapered to rounded apex, margins with folds and plumose setae ( Fig. 44b). Style with apophysis short, straight, narrow, truncate, apex sharp ventrally ( Fig. 44c). In ventral view aedeagus wide at base, quadrate, tapered from origin of ventral processes; shaft slightly longer than ventral processes, straight, apex truncate; dorsal projection with pointed lateral extension ( Fig. 44d). Ventral processes arising close to base, slightly separated from shaft along entire length, apices divergent and pointed. In lateral view shaft vertical, wide, slightly longer than ventral processes, apex rounded; dorsal projection short and truncate. Gonopore subapical. Ventral processes close to shaft at base, then lateral to shaft, straight, narrow, apices pointed ( Fig. 44e).

Diagnosis. O. hansoni and O. obamai both have the color pattern of the species group with a pale mark bordered with dark brown, but O. obamai has the transverse apical band on the anterior margin of vertex pale yellow, not surrounded by black, whereas O. hansonai has the apical band of the vertex pale-yellow and surrounded by black and a pale mark bordered with dark brown.

Distribution. Known from Costa Rica and Panama; 1300–2800 m.

Etymology. This species is named in honor of President Barack Obama.
