Tambocerus furcostylus View in CoL sp. nov.

Figs 7, 8 View FIGURES 1–12 , 47–55 View FIGURES 47–55 .

Coloration similar to T. cholas but median dark brown spots on anterior margin of vertex slightly larger, brown maculations on pronotum scutellum and forewings bolder and more numerous, basal triangles of scutum brown, one transverse spot in distal half of scutellum and few spots in basal half dark brown; apices of claval veins and those reaching costal margin with dark brown large areas, venation mostly dark brown.

Head slightly wider than pronotum in male and slightly narrower than pronotum in female. Vertex 1.6 times as wide between eyes as median length in male and 1.75 times as wide between eyes as median length in female. Fore tibia with dorsal setal formula 1+5.

Male genitalia. Pygofer of uniform height in lateral view in basal 0.75 then narrowed, with area of heavy sclerotization bordering posterodorsal angle both on dorsal and posterior margins, with laterally directed acute projection ( Figs 47, 48 View FIGURES 47–55 ); three macrosetae on posterior region dorsally. Subgenital plate with apical prolongation, submarginal row of macrosetae and marginal long hair-like setae. Connective stem very long (3.6 times as long as arms). Style apical lobe long, about 0.65 times as long as apophysis. Aedeagus in lateral aspect with broad rather rectangular base, shaft dorsally directed, posterior margin near base with median ridge; shaft with lateral serrations in basal half and a few near apical 0.25 length.

Female genitalia. Seventh sternite twice as wide as median length; posterior margin medially produced and bilobed ( Fig 55 View FIGURES 47–55 ).

Measurements. Male 6.2 mm long, 1.7 mm wide across eyes. Female 7.1 mm long, 1.8 mm wide across eyes.

Material examined. HOLOTYPE ♂, INDIA: Karnataka, 12 (Km) N. Thithimathi, 20.i.1978, Viraktamath C. A. ( UASB) . PARATYPE 1 ♀, INDIA: Tamil Nadu: Shambaganur , 18.viii.1979, S. Viraktamath ( NPC) .

Remarks. T. furcostylus sp. nov. externally resembles T. cholas sp. nov. but has more prominent dark spots on the forewing costal margin in the distal half and has entirely different male genitalia. The aedeagus in posterior view has a well demarcated median ridge at the base and the apical lobe of the male style is prolonged, a character that distinguishes this species from other known species of Tambocerus .

Etymology. The species name alludes to the bifurcated structure of the style.
