Quedius (Quedionuchus) laevigatus : Smetana 1971 (North America, treated both Q. longipennis and Q. plagiatus in present sense, as single species under unavailable name laevigatus Gyllenhal ; lectotype designation for Q. longipennis )
Quedius (Quedionuchus) plagiatus Mannerheim 1843 View in CoL (in part): Smetana 1990 ( Q. longipennis View in CoL and Q. plagiatus View in CoL in present sense, as single species under available name plagiatus Mannerheim View in CoL )
Quedionuchus plagiatus View in CoL (in part): Schülke and Smetana 2015 (reported Palaearctic distribution in detail, general world distribution)
Type locality: ‘ Unalaschka’ [=Unalaska, Amaknak Island, in the Aleutian islands] .
Type material. Lectotype (male, MZH): [male symbol on label]/Unalaschka/Cygnaeus/ Quedius longipennis Mannerh. / Mus. Zool. Helsinki N:o 7001 [yellow label]/Mus. Zool. H. fors Spec. typ. No. 2201 Quedius longipennis Mannh. / Quedionuchus longipennis Mannerheim det. A. Brunke 2018 [white label].
The male lectotype designated by Smetana (1971) morphologically corresponds perfectly to the concept given here for the Nearctic population of the Glaber group bearing a median lobe in lateral view with a relatively short apical part ( Fig. 6c View Fig ), here treated as a distinct species. The aedeagus of the lectotype bears a small, less protruding tooth, typical of and unique to Q. longipennis .
Quedius rufipennis Mäklin, 1853 syn. nov.
Type material not examined. Based on the description by Mäklin (1853), the elytra are reddish, excluding the other sympatric species of the genus, Q. plagiatus , which always bears a distinct spot or broad darkened discal area. Therefore, this name, previously a synonym of Q. plagiatus , is synonymized under Quedius longipennis Mannerheim.
