Holotype: ZSM 170 View Materials /93, adult female, “ Provinzgrenze Van / Aðri, 30 km NW Erciþ, 2.000 m, Türkei ”.

Etymology: Named after the Latin noun “ sapphirus ”, a blue gem, referring to the characteristic blue lateral spots in this species.

Present name: Darevskia sapphirina ( Schmidtler, Eiselt et Darevsky, 1994) fide Murphy et al. (2000).
