TYPE LOCALITY: Indonesia, Java .
DISTRIBUTION: Java; Flores; Sulawesi; Saleyer Isl. (Sulawesi); Halmahera and nearby islands; Seram; Philippines; Madoera Isl. (Java).
COMMENT: Includes celebensis; see Laurie and Hill, 1954:87. According to Lekagul and McNeely, 1977, Mammals of Thailand, pg. 661, known only from Java (i.e., excluding celebensis), where it occurs with scrofa without interbreeding. Regarded as conspecific with barbatus by Heptner and Naumov, eds., 1961, [Mammals of the Soviet Union], Vyssha Shkola, p. 27.
