TYPE LOCALITY: Nepal, in the Himalayas .
DISTRIBUTION: N. India and Burma to S.E. Siberia; south to Thailand.
COMMENT: The taxa baileyi, caudatus and perhaps cranbrooki are probably valid species (PG). See also Lekagul and McNeely, 1977:699; Corbet and Hill, 1980:126.
PROTECTED STATUS: CITES - Appendix I and U.S. ESA - Endangered.
