Widespread in Egypt in the flowers of various Poaceae ( Priesner 1965) View in CoL , this species was recorded from Iran by Alavi and zur Strassen (2002) from soybean fields in Golestan Province. No specimens have been studied by the present authors, and the following diagnosis is derived from Priesner (1931, 1965).
Diagnosis
Body brown to black; fore tibiae yellowish distally, fore tarsi yellow, middle and hind tarsi greyish-yellow; antennal segments I–II dark, II paler at apex, III–VI mostly yellow, VII–VIII dark; major body setae pale. Head slightly longer than broad, with postocular setae pointed; head with maxillary stylets 0.40–0.45 of head width apart, retracted to postocular setae. antennal segment III with one sensorium (cf. Figure 28 View Figures 22–31 ), the other vestigial or wanting. Pronotal setae blunt or capitate. Fore tarsus with small tooth. Mesopresternum boat shaped. Forewing sub-basal setae S1 and S2 capitate, S3 pointed; forewing with four to six (usually five) duplicated cilia (cf. Figure 18 View Figures 10–21 ). Pelta triangular. Tergite IX setae S1, S2 and S3 pointed. Tube very short (cf. Figure 31 View Figures 22–31 ).
