A checklist of and a key to known and valid species of Cryptalaus Ôhira in India
Platia & Pulvirenti (2021: 180) recorded Calais afghanicus Chassain, 1991 from India (Almora, Uttarakhand) as Cryptalaus afghanicus without any remarks. We follow Hoffmannova et al. (2023: 291) in not considering this species in Cryptalaus . Additionally, Chalcolepis kashyapi Vats & Kashyap, 1992 is an erroneous assignment and requires detailed study to determine its generic status. The male genitalia described ( Vats & Kashyap 1992: 197; Fig. 2 View FIGURES 1–4 ) is not like that of Cryptalaus and the abdominal ventrite V is said to have two deep foveae ( Vats & Kashyap 1992: 196). Thus, we agree with Cate (2007: 208) and keep this species under species incertae sedis.
Therefore, at present the Indian fauna of the genus Cryptalaus Ôhira is represented by 14 species. The species are listed below:
1. Cryptalaus alveolatus Parekar & Patwardhan, 2021 .
India: Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Kerala.
