D i a g n o s i s: Fromtheexternallysimilar S. italicus , which is unknown from Sicily, this species is reliably distinguished only by the morphology of the aedeagus; for detailed illustrations of the male primary and secondary sexual characters of S. martinarum see ADORNO & ZANETTI (2003). From S. algiricus , which too has been recorded from Sicily, it is separated by the more slender body, the absence of microsculpture on the head, and by the male sexual characters.

D i s t r i b u t i o n a n d b i o n o m i c s: ThespeciesisendemictoSicily,where it is evidently widespread (ADORNO & ZANETTI 2003). The material examined was collected at lower and intermediate altitudes in February and during the period from April through August. For more details see ADORNO & ZANETTI (2003). A flying specimen was caught with a car-net in July.
