[ Holotype: CASC; ♀ Simmler, 16.1 km W., San Luis Obispo Co., California, US; May 5, 1962 ]

As the name suggests, Andrena malacothricidis specializes on pollen primarily from Malocothrix DC. in the family Asteraceae (Thorp 1969) . This species inhabits the CFP in California, USA and BC, Mexico. Within BC, this species was first reported by Hurd (1979) and confirmed by Ayala et al. (1996).
