[ Holotype: CASC; ♂ Palm Springs , Riverside County, California; 21 Mar 1932]

This species specializes on pollen from Cryptantha Lehm. ex G. Don ( Boraginaceae ) ( Fowler 2020). Within the BCP, Hoplitis deserticola has been previously reported in the Succulent Coastal Matorral, Lower Colorado Desert, Central Desert, and Vizcaíno Desert by BBSL ( GBIF 2023). We reviewed specimens collected in the Central Desert in May 1965 (1 ♂; CASC), March 2021 (1 ♀), April 1982 (9 ♂, 2 ♀), and April 1985 (2 ♀, 2 ♂); and La Giganta Ranges in April 1985 (1 ♀).
