Coelotrypes Bezzi View in CoL View at ENA

Coelotrypes Bezzi, 1924: 494 View in CoL . Type species: C. vittatus Bezzi View in CoL , by original designation.

Euphrantochlaena Hering, 1940: 3 . Type species: E. pulchellina Hering View in CoL , by original designation. Syn. Hancock, 1986: 300.

Staurocneros Hering, 1944: 2 . Type species: Staurella circumscripta Hering , by original designation. Syn. Permkam and Hancock, 1995: 1142.

Diagnosis: Antenna longer than face with short plumose arista, concave face, 2̄3 pairs of frontal setae (uppermost one closely placed to orbital seta), scutum and scutellum with a medial yellow vitta, anatergite with fine erect hairs, mid tibia with single black ventroapical spine, crossvein r-m distal of middle of cell dm, epandrium dome-shaped with stout lateral surstylus as long as epandrium, lateral susrtylus without well demarcated anterior and posterior lobes, proctiger tubular with tuft of apical hairs (bearded appearance). Glans of phallus with single tubule, well developed acrophallus. Female with three, oval/club-shaped spermathecae, aculeus tip trilobed with preapical serrations and four pairs of small preapical setae.

Coelotrypes View in CoL can be separated from all other genera of Adramini (= Euphrantini) by the keys in Hancock (1986), Hancock and Drew (2005) and Hancock and Marshall (2012). Occurring in both the Afrotropical and Indo- Australian Regions, it appears to be most closely related to the Afrotropical genera Coelopacidia Enderlein View in CoL (with 1 Indian species: see David et al., 2013) and Trypanophion Bezzi View in CoL , which differ in having 2 long apical spines on the mid tibia rather than one. It also resembles the Oriental genera Euphranta Loew View in CoL and Dimeringophrys Enderlein View in CoL but males can be easily differentiated by the presence of a tuft of apical hairs on the proctiger. Keys to Afrotropical species were provided by Hancock (1986) and notes on Oriental, Australasian and Pacific Island species were included in Hardy (1983) and Hancock and Drew (2005). All recorded host plants are the flower buds of Convolvulaceae View in CoL .
