Homotypic synonym:— Bryophyllum gracilipes (Baker) Eggli (1992: 84) .

Type:— MADAGASCAR. Betsileo-land, [southeast-central Madagascar], Comm.[-unicated] May 1880 [given as “1879” by Boiteau & Allorge-Boiteau (1995: 42), which is the date provided by Baker (1881: 264)], [Langley] Kitching s.n., (lectotype Herb. K), not available for examination online, designated by Boiteau & Allorge-Boiteau (1995: 42); (isolectotype Herb. P, barcode P 00374109!, available for examination online at http://coldb.mnhn.fr/catalognumber/mnhn/p/p00374109).

Nomenclatural note on original material associated with the name Kitchingia gracilipes :—Apart from the lectotype of the name Kitchingia gracilipes , [Langley] Kitching s.n., held at Herb. K, which constitutes original material because it was clearly available to Baker when he described the species, a black-and-white line drawing of the species was also published as part of the protologue of the name, as Plate VII, Figs 1–3 . This line drawing also qualifies as original material.

Taxonomic notes:— Kalanchoe gracilipes is an accepted species (see Boiteau & Allorge-Boiteau 1995: 42–46, Descoings 2003: 157–158, and Smith et al. 2021b: 74). Apart from Kalanchoe gracilipes var. gracilipes , i.e., the autonymic variety, Kalanchoe gracilipes var. microphylla Humbert ex L.Allorge in Boiteau & Allorge-Boiteau (1995: 46) is also upheld ( Smith et al. 2021b: 75).

Kalanchoe gracilipes is included in Kalanchoe subg. Kitchingia .
