Acmaeodera recticollis Fall, 1899 View in CoL
This species was described from two specimens, one from Winslow, Arizona, the other from New Mexico, again with no mention of a type. It is a well-defined species, with only one other resembling it closely, Acmaeodera recticolloides Westcott. Like the previous species, the two buprestid catalogs differ with regards type depository: Bellamy (2008a) gives “ANSP 8381 USNM 58128” and Nelson et al. (2008) listed “MCZC 58128 ANSP 8381.” The latter reference also gave “NM” as the type locality, for which there is no basis because no lectotype designation had been published. To clarify this situation we hereby designate as the lectotype of Acmaeodera recticollis Fall, 1899 the specimen in USNM that is labeled as follows: “Winslow, Ariz., Wickham. [p] // recticollis Fall , type. [h] // Type No 58128, USNM [p, red] // Acmaeodera recticollis Fall. [h] // Lectotype Acmaeodera recticollis Fall , desig. Westcott & Bílý 2018 [p, red]." The specimen bore a lectotype label placed by W. F. Barr in 1971, but he never published this, and the label will be discarded. The specimen in ANSP from “N. M.” becomes a paralectotype, as designated by us on blue card. That specimen also bears an invalid lectotype label designated, but never published, by W. F. Barr in 1/68 (possibly 1/60), which will be kept on the specimen. The listing of MCZC as the type depository by Nelson et al. (2008) is in error.
