Anthaxia (Haplanthaxia) sculptipennis Obenberger, 1924 View in CoL
( Figs. 5, 6 View FIGURES 5–6 )
Anthaxia sculptipennis Obenberger, 1924: 81 View in CoL .
Anthaxia (Haplanthaxia) oneili Obenberger, 1931 View in CoL syn. nov.
Anthaxia oneili Obenberger, 1931: 105 View in CoL (as O´neili).
Anthaxia (H.) sculptipennis View in CoL was described from “Transvaal" without a holotype designation. The specimen designated as “ Typus " from NMPC is a male and it is labeled: “Transvaal [h] // Typus [p, red framed] // sculptipennis View in CoL m. Type [h], Det. D r. Obenberger [p] // Mus. Nat. Pragae Inv.22778 [p, orange, number handwritten]". Another “ Typus ", probably female, was found in BMNH bearing the same locality label. Anthaxia (H.) oneili View in CoL was described from “Cape Colony", evidently for several specimens but also without a holotype designation. The specimens deposited in NMPC (2 males) are labeled: “Cape Colony [h] // Anthaxia hottentotta Pst. View in CoL [h] // Anthaxia View in CoL O´Neili m. Type [h], Det. D r. Obenberger [p] // Typus [p, red, framed] // Mus. Nat. Pragae Inv. 22756 [p, orange, number handwritten]" and “Pienaars River, 24.ix.1922, A. J. Swierstra [h] // Typus [p, red framed] // O´Neili [h], Det. D r. Obenberger [p]" The specimen deposited in BMNH (female) is labelled “Cape Colony, Uitenhage, Rev. O´Neil, 1917 // Anthaxia View in CoL O´Neili m. Type [h], Det. D r. Obenberger [p] // Typus [p, red framed]".
After having studied the syntypes of both species, one of us (SB) found no substantial difference, and Anthaxia oneili Obenberger, 1931 is considered conspecific with Anthaxia sculptipennis Obenberger, 1924 and a junior synonym. Since the number of syntypes is unknown, to avoid any confusion in the future we designate the male specimen of A. sculptipennis deposited in NMPC (Mus. Nat. Pragae Inv. 22778) as the lectotype ( Figs. 5, 6 View FIGURES 5–6 ), and the specimen deposited in BMNH as the paralectoptype. For the same reason, we designate the male specimen of A. oneili deposited in NMPC (Mus. Nat. Pragae Inv. 22756) as the lectotype, the second male specimen from NMPC (Pienaars River) and the specimen from BMNH (Cape Colony, Uitenhage) as paralectotypes.
