Genus: Coleofasciculus

Coleofasciculus cf. chthonoplastes . ( Figs. 6A–D View FIGURE 6 )

Basionym : Microcoleus chthonoplastes View in CoL

Description: Thallus in form of moderately thick dark blue green mat ( Fig. 6A View FIGURE 6 ) on upper zone of comparatively harder mudflat. Trichome without heterocyte ( Fig. 6B View FIGURE 6 ). Sheath moderately thick, not intensely lamellated, colourless ( Fig. 6B View FIGURE 6 ). Many (10–15) trichomes present in one sheath ( Figs. 6B, D View FIGURE 6 ), sometimes 3–4. Filaments 10–18 μm wide. Trichomes cylindrical, with straight, usually narrowed ends ( Figs. 6A, C, D View FIGURE 6 ); slightly constricted, 3–4 μm wide ( Fig. 6D View FIGURE 6 ); end cells conical to round, without calyptras ( Figs. 6D, E View FIGURE 6 ). Cells blue green, longer than wide, 7–8 μm long ( Fig. 6D View FIGURE 6 ). Cell division cross-wise, daughter cells grow into the original size before the next division. Reproduction by motile fragments of trichomes; fragmentation usually by the help of necridic cells.

Differentiating characters: According to the literature, closest species is Coleofasciculus chthonoplastes ( Siegesmund et al. 2008) . However, present specimen lacked wider trichome and thick sheaths compared to C. chthonoplastes .

Habitat: Estuarine mangrove soil.
