Etymology
Clessidra is “hourglass” in Latin and Italian, the sand-filled glass that measures time.
Diagnostic characters
Eyes round-oval (versus Maera ). Accessory flagellum long. Maxillae only apically setose. Mx1 IP elongate, not triangular. Md palp art1 distally thickened, but not lengthened; obliquely ending (versus Maera ). Md palp art2 longer than art3. Md art3 straight, not falcate. Cx1 anteriorly acutely lengthened. Gn1 carpus longer than propodus. Gn2 symmetrical, propodus with palmar corner, dactylus on outer margin with three or four setae (versus Maera ). P dactyli simple. Peraeon and pleon dorsally smooth. Ep3 posterior margin smooth, not serrated. U3 rami of similar length, truncate, beset with robust setae. T deeply cleft, lobes distally widely excavated, with two tips, in excavation one short robust seta (versus Maera ).
