Subgenus Solen (Ensisolen) Habe, 1977

Type species: Solen krusensterni Schrenck, 1867: 594 , pl. 25, figs. 9–12

Diagnosis: Shell “short ensiform”; dorsal and ventral margins not strictly parallel as in Solen s.s.; anterior and posterior corners somewhat rounded; anterior margin slightly truncate to semicircular; posterior margin narrow and truncate. Posterior adductor muscle scar positioned above the pallial sinus ( Fig. 1A–D View FIGURE 1 ).

Remarks: According to Habe (1977), the shell of Ensisolen is almost straight on the dorsal margin and slightly convex on the ventral margin with a rounded anterior shell end, whereas in Solen s.s. the shell is not curved and the anterior margin is truncate. Cosel (1992) added that the posterior adductor scar of Ensisolen is above the pallial sinus rather than in front of it.

Distribution: East coast of North America, Caribbean Sea, western Atlantic Ocean from USA to Argentina; temperate waters of China and north of Japan, north of Siberia, Okhotsk Sea ( Coan & Valentich-Scott 2012; Cosel 1990; Rios 1994, 2009).
