Sampling of Salmoneus carvachoi View in CoL
Shrimps were collected during spring low tides in December 2016 and February 2017 from an intertidal mudflat located at Ilha de Itamaracá, Paripe River estuary, Pernambuco, Brazil (07°48ʹ 38*0ʹʹS 34°51ʹ 22*1ʹʹW)* Shrimps were captured using a ‘trampling-onto-the-mud’ technique learnt from local fishermen (see: Oliveira et al. 2018)* Ŋree people quickly and steadily trampled on the mudflats dominated by burrows of Alpheus estuariensis * Trampling resulted in the destruction of burrows that caused the ‘escape’ of S. carvachoi from within them (Almeida et al * 2012, Oliveira et al * 2015, 2018)* Each S. carvachoi observed within the puddles was captured by hand and gently placed in plastic jars filled with estuarine water, transported to the laboratory, anesthetized on ice, and fixed in 10% formalin*
