Diagnosis. The Austral kingdom “ corresponds to the southern temperate areas, in South America, South Africa, Australasia and Antarctica ” ( Morrone 2015a in press).

Remarks. In his recent reappraisal of the biogeographical regionalization of the world, Morrone (2015a) cites Engler (1899) as the first usage of the term “ Austral ” in his phytogeographic regionalisation of the world, which is adopted in this classification.
