Tree 8 to 10 m. Glabrous. Leaf blades coriaceous, shortly 5-plinerved (in Peruvian specimens); with strictly elliptic leaf blades (Peruvian specimens). Flowers 5-merous; petal red-lilac; anthers and filaments lilac, connective appendage yellow.

Distribution in Peru:—Montane forests on eastern slopes, at 2800 m.
