report B. koilomatodon View in CoL in the south coast of Sri Lanka. Most subsequent authors reported Butis butis View in CoL from various parts of the island, but these reports were somewhat doubtful ( Goonatilake, 2007; De Silva et al., 2015).
During our survey to evaluate the diversity of brackish water fishes of Sri Lanka, we discovered another Butis species, B. gymnopomus View in CoL , which is new to Sri Lankan waters and the aim of this note.
MATERIALS AND METHODS
