Comments: A new study by Sabir et al. (2018) shows that there is considerable diversity within taxa that resemble Hyalosynedra with SEM characters needed to separate many of them. In particular, Stricosus Sabir & Theriot differs from Hyalosynedra in the symmetry of the rimoportula covers, the number of rows of pores in the ocellulimbus and the depth to which the ocellulimbus is sunk. H. laevigata differs from H. sublaevigata in having a linear sternum (versus lanceolate) and in the number pores across the ocellulimbus.
