Ilex ulmacea (Saporta) Doweld , comb. nov.
≡ Celastrus ulmaceus Saporta (in Heer 1861: 157) ≡ Ilex celastrina Saporta (1865a: 157) , nom. illeg. & superfl.
Type:—[fossil leaves] Saint-Jean-de-Garguier, Bouches-du-Rhône, Provence-Alpes-Côte-d’Azur, France (neotype, designated here, MNHN. F.13868, Muséum National d’Histoire Naturelle, Paris, France-illustrated by Saporta 1865a: pl. 8, fig. 1 A). Fig. 4 View FIGURE 4 .
Occurrence:—Lower Miocene (Aquitanian); Eurasia (Europe).
IFPNI:— CF0D9E83-1735-A965-A695-EFADC4C494BA.
Notes:—The fossil-species Ilex celastrina Saporta (1865a: 157) was published as a replacement name for the previously validly published fossil-species Celastrus ulmaceus Saporta (in Heer 1861: 157). Saporta in 1865 refuted the putative affinity with ulmaceous foliage, suggested previously by him in the eponymy of the species name, and inadmissibly renamed the fossil-species. Therefore, a new combination is proposed to replace nomenclaturally illegitimate I. celastrina .
