Figs 15-16 View FIGURES 15–16
Specimens examined: GUATEMALA: Zacapa, 5-8 km N. San Lorenzo, 1800-2000 m, 10 Jun 1993, H. & A. Howden (1 male, CMNC) .
Notes: Anderson (2002) described this species from Costa Rica based on a single female specimen. The paired setose patches on the dorsal surface of the rostrum divided medially by a distinct fine carina ( Anderson 2002: Fig. 151), and the unique sculpturing of the pronotum and elytra ( Anderson 2002: Figs. 135–136) immediately characterize females of this odd, perhaps flightless species. The male specimen from Guatemala is the first recorded from that country. The pattern of impressions on the pronotum and elytra and form of pygidium are as in the female and appear to be species-distinctive for the male as well as the female. There is no other known Rhodobaenus with similar pronotal and elytral sculpturing.
Description of male: Length 10.0 mm. As in the female, except rostrum dorsally glabrous, shiny, ventrally with peduncle slightly produced, broadly rounded, metasternum and ventrite 1 medially longitudinally concave.
