Thaumatodryinus townesi Olmi 1984: 692 .

Pseudodryinus townesi (Olmi) : Olmi 1991: 369; 2006: 43; Olmi et al. 2016: 77 View Cited Treatment .

Description. ♀ ( Figs 154C, D View FIGURE 154 ). Fully winged; body length 3.4–5.6 mm. Completely testaceous, except petiole black; antenna brown, except scape and pedicel testaceous. In specimen from Democratic Republic of the Congo, 04°16’S 17°11’E, head brown, except mandible, clypeus, anterior half of frons, ventral side and part of occiput testaceous; antenna testaceous-brown, except scape and pedicel testaceous; mesosoma testaceous, except scutum and metanotum brown; metapectal-propodeal disc and propodeal declivity black; metanotum testaceous, except petiole and part of first tergite brown; legs testaceous. Antenna very slender ( Figs 154C, D View FIGURE 154 ), clavate; holotype with antennomeres 1–4 in following proportions: 7:5:50:40 (antennomeres 5–10 missing in holotype). Head flat, shiny, slightly alutaceous; occiput strongly excavated; frontal line absent; frons without lateral keels, with short median furrow in front of anterior ocellus; occipital carina complete; POL = 6; OL = 3.5; OOL = 8; OPL = 1.5; TL = 7. Palpal formula of type material 4/2; in specimen from Central African Republic, 3°02.01’N 16°24.57’E, palpal formula 6/3. Pronotum shiny, unsculptured, crossed by transverse impression; pronotal tubercle reaching tegula. Mesoscutum, mesoscutellum and metanotum shiny, unsculptured. Notauli complete, posteriorly separated, very converging. Metapectal-propodeal disc dull, granulate, with some areolae or tracks of areolae, with transverse posterior keel; propodeal declivity with two longitudinal keels and median area dull, granulate. In specimen from Central African Republic, 3°02.01’N 16°24.57’E, metapectal-propodeal disc sculptured by large areolae, not granulate, with two median parallel irregular longitudinal keels; propodeal declivity with two longitudinal keels and large areolae similar to those of metapectal-propodeal disc. Forewing hyaline, without dark transverse bands; distal part of 2r-rs&Rs vein much longer than proximal part; 2R1 cell closed. Hind wings hyaline, not darkened. Protrochanter about as long as profemur (44:46), procoxa (44:46) and protibia (44:42). Protarsomeres in following proportions: 16:4:8:31:41. Enlarged claw ( Fig. 155D View FIGURE 155 ) with one large subdistal tooth and one row of six lamellae. Protarsomere 5 ( Fig. 155D View FIGURE 155 ) with one row of nine lamellae; apex with 10 lamellae. Tibial spurs 1/1/2.

♂. Unknown (see remarks).

Hosts. Unknown.

Distribution. Central African Republic, Democratic Republic of the Congo, South Africa, Uganda.

Remarks. The ♂ tentatively attributed to Ps. townesi by Olmi (1984) cannot belong to teh genus Pseudodryinus , because the minimum distance between the notauli is longer than the greatest breadth of the lateral ocelli. For this reason it is now attributed to Thaumatodryinus Perkins ( Th. sokokensis Olmi 2007 ). In the specimen from Central African Republic, 3°02.01’N 16°24.57’E, both chelae are missing, so that it is not possible to check if it is a new species. The sculpture of the metapectal-propodeal disc is very different from that of the type material. In addition, the palpal formula 6/3 is not known in Pseudodryinus , being typical of Harpactosphecion . It is likely that the two genera are synonyms and Harpactosphecion gains priority. It is necessary to wait for additional specimens with complete chelae before reaching an informed decision about this potential synonymy.
