Apodryininae Olmi 1984: 1796; Olmi et al. 2000: 156; Olmi & Virla 2006: 408; Olmi 2007b: 1; Virla & Olmi 2008: 372.

Type genus. Apodryinus Olmi 1984 ; monotypic and original designation.

Diagnosis. ♀: apterous ( Fig. 254A, B View FIGURE 254 ); mandible with four irregular teeth; occipital carina, subocular sulcus and ocelli absent; occiput convex, not excavated; antenna without tufts of long setae, with ADOs; mesosoma composed of fused segments; only propleuron mobile and articulated; pronotum, mesothorax and metapectal-propodeal disc fused and not articulated among them; protrochanter twice or less than twice as long as broad; protarsomere 5 never with only one preapical lamella ( Fig. 256B View FIGURE 256 ); rudimentary claw present; tibial spurs 1/1/1. ♂ ( Fig. 260C View FIGURE 260 ): fully winged; mandible with 3–4 teeth (if quadridentate, including one rudimentary tooth); palpal formula 5/3, 6/3; epicnemium exposed; mesosternum distinct, not fused with mesopleura ( Fig. 264A View FIGURE 264 ); forewing with C, R and 1Cu cells clearly enclosed by pigmented veins; basivolsella with lateral distal process parallel to distivolsella and reaching at least same level of distivolsella apex ( Fig. 261C View FIGURE 261 ); tibial spurs 1/1/2.

Distribution. Gondwanian ( Argentina, Chile, Galapagos Islands ( Ecuador), Australia; Madagascar; South Africa).

Hosts. Unknown.

World species. 13 species are known, 11 in the Afrotropical region.

World genera. Seven genera are known, four in the Afrotropical region.

Remarks. The following three genera have not been recorded from the Afrotropical region: Bocchopsis Olmi 1991 (Australian), Apodryinus Olmi 1984 (Neotropical) and Peckius Olmi & Virla 2014 (Neotropical).
