Bolboschoenus longispermus (Dorofeev) Doweld , comb. nov.

30–32), isonym. Type (lectotype designated by Nikitin 2007: 155):—Dorofeev coll. K523, specimen 14/30 (Komarov Botanical Institute, Russian Academy of Sciences, St.- Petersburg, Russian Federation)—figured by Dorofeev 1963: pl. 14, fig. 30. Geography:—Isakovka village, Omsk region, Russian Federation. Stratigraphy:—Miocene. Fossil status:—Fruits. IFPNI registration record:— 9B5AD826-3F36-45D2-B18C-7F93C54FF013.

Note:—The fossil-species is compared with extant B. maritimus (Linnaeus) Palla.

Nikitin (2007) questioned the validity of Dorofeev’s name, and ‘validated’ ‘ Scirpus longispermus Dorofeev ex Nikitin sp. nov. ’ (2007: 155) on the basis of the type of Scirpus longispermus Dorofeev (1963: 121) . In 1963 Dorofeev fulfilled all requirements of the International Code of Botanical Nomenclature, and provided description (in Russian), illustrations and type designation as ‘ Holotype from the Miocene sediments of Isakovka village on Irtysh river’ [translated]. Dorofeev did not specify the holotype among several figured specimens (pl. 14, figs 28–34), but this was permissible in that times; he did not infringe the provisions of the previous and modern versions of the Codes. The obligatory specification of the holotype among figured specimens became effected from 1 January, 2001 (ICN, Art. 43.3). Thus, in fact, Nikitin (2007) designated lectotype from the specimens of Dorofeev (1963), his ‘ Scirpus longispermus Dorofeev ex Nikitin sp. nov. ’ (2007: 155) should be technically treated as a superfluous isonym.
