Note:—Since the genus Acorellus Palla (1905: 2557) is no more recognized as distinct in the taxonomy of sedges and therefore treated as a synonym of Cyperus sensu lato ( Goetghebeur, 1989), the only known fossil-species Acorellus distachyoformis Łańcucka-Środoniowa is formally transferred to Cyperus . Initially ‘ Acorellus distachyoformis ’ Łańcucka-Środoniowa (1977: 40) was described, but not validly published due to the lack of the required type designation. Later Łańcucka-Środoniowa (1985: 22) validated the fossil-species by providing direct reference to previously published description and illustrations in 1977, and designated holotype (incorrectly termed ‘lectotype’) and additional isotypes (Pl. 5, figs. 1, 2, 4 (Nowy Sącz I: IB PAN 194/7) with paratypes (pl. 5, figs. 5, 7 (Domański Wierch: IB PAN 71/541).
