Schoenoplectiella ragozinii (Dorofeev) Doweld , comb. nov.

≡ Scirpus ragozinii Dorofeev (1963: 121 , pl. 13, figs 38–45, text-fig. 18: 1–6) ≡ Scirpus ragozinii Dorofeev ex Nikitin (2007: 154 , pl. 19, figs. 25–29), isonym.

Type (lectotype designated by Nikitin 2007: 154):—Dorofeev coll. K 526, specimen 13/43 (Komarov Botanical Institute, Russian Academy of Sciences, St.- Petersburg, Russian Federation)—figured by Dorofeev 1963: pl. 13, fig. 43.

Geography:—Korolenko village, Uj river, Omsk region, Russian Federation.

Stratigraphy:—Lower Oligocene (Rupelian).

Fossil status:—Fruits.

Note:—The fossil-species is compared with extant Schoenoplectiella mucronata (Linnaeus) Jung & Choi (2010: 230) .

Nikitin (2007) questioned the validity of Dorofeev’s name, and ‘validated’ ‘ Scirpus ragozinii Dorofeev ex Nikitin sp. nov. ’ (2007: 154). In 1963 Dorofeev fulfilled the requirements of the International Code of Botanical Nomenclature, and provided description (in Russian), illustrations and type designation as ‘ Holotype from the Oligocene sediments revealed by the borehole 67-к, 82.8–89.3 depth’ [translated]. However, Dorofeev did not specify the very holotype among several figured specimens (pl. 13, figs 38–45, text-fig. 18: 1–6), but this was not a mistake in that times. The obligatory specification of the holotype among figured specimens became effected from 1 January, 2001 ( ICN, Art. 43.3). Thus, Nikitin (2007) really designated lectotype from the specimens of Dorofeev (1963), his ‘ Scirpus ragozinii Dorofeev ex Nikitin sp. nov. ’ (2007: 154) should be treated as a superfluous isonym.
