Neotrichia jamevu sp. nov.

Figs 3A–3D View FIGURE 3

Diagnosis. This species does not fit well into any of the species groups of Marshall (1979) as defined by Keth et al. (2015). Although the sclerotized apicolateral extensions of segment IX somewhat resemble those of the N. okopa and N. vibrans Species Groups, the male genitalia of N. jamevu sp. nov. do not have the small ventral projection at or near the mid-mesal margin of each inferior appendage, typical of the N. okopa Group, and does not have the tapered margins of the segment X, typical of the N. vibrans Group. The male of N. jamevu sp. nov. is similar to that of Neotrichia villa Oláh & Johanson 2011 in the pair of sclerotized apicolateral extensions of segment IX, in the forked bracteoles, and in the subgenital plate with a long ventral vertical rostrum. The new species can be easily distinguished by the apicolateral extension of segment IX being beak-like in lateral view ( Fig. 3A View FIGURE 3 , ap), and by the phallus ending in a sclerotized apical hook ( Fig. 3D View FIGURE 3 ).

Description. Male (in alcohol): Dark brown with length of each forewing 1.8 mm (holotype and 1 paratype). Postoccipital setal warts pronounced, large, ovoid. Antennae each with 18 articles; scape normal, cylindrical, slightly longer than pedicel; flagellomeres as long as pedicel, cylindrical. Maxillary palp formula I-II-IV-III-V (shortest to longest), first two articles extremely short, shorter than wide. Mesoscutellum anterior margin convex; metascutellum convexly subtriangular. Sternum VII with apicomesal process.

Male genitalia. Segment IX arising from within segment VIII, with a pair of dorsal setal lobes ( Figs 3A, 3C View FIGURE 3 , dsl); in lateral view, with anterolateral margins sinuous, slightly rounded and produced anterad below midheight ( Fig. 3A View FIGURE 3 ); anterodorsal and anteroventral margins concave in both dorsal and ventral views ( Figs 3B, 3C View FIGURE 3 ); posterolateral margins rounded, sclerotized, with pair of sclerotized apicolateral projections, beak-like in lateral view ( Fig. 3A View FIGURE 3 , ap); in ventral and dorsal views, sclerotized apicolateral projections each with mesal constriction and rounded apex, hidden by inferior appendages in ventral view and by tergum X in dorsal view (dotted lines in Figs 3B, 3C View FIGURE 3 , ap). Segment X membranous, fused with dorsum of segment IX; apex truncate in lateral view ( Fig. 3A View FIGURE 3 ), slightly convex in dorsal view ( Fig. 3C View FIGURE 3 ). Subgenital plate in lateral view as long as inferior appendages and with long posteromesal process directed ventrad ( Fig. 3A View FIGURE 3 , sg); in ventral view, narrowing basally, widening apically and with slightly concave apex flanked by pair of long setae ( Fig. 3B View FIGURE 3 , sg). Bracteoles membranous, forked, as long as inferior appendages, branches equal in length, each branch with terminal seta ( Figs 3A, 3B View FIGURE 3 , br). Inferior appendages, in lateral view, long and robust; in ventral view, of nearly uniform width over basal 2/3, tapered to truncate, slightly convergent apices ( Fig. 3B View FIGURE 3 , ia). Phallus slender distally, ending in sclerotized apical hook ( Fig. 3D View FIGURE 3 ); paramere surrounding shaft and extending laterad at base of apical portion ( Fig. 3D View FIGURE 3 , pr); ejaculatory duct sclerotized, sinuous, protruding subapically ( Fig. 3D View FIGURE 3 , ed).

Female, larva, pupa, and egg. Unknown.

Holotype male. BRAZIL: Pará: São Geraldo do Araguaia municipality, Serra das Andorinhas, Igarapé xambioazinho, 6°10’20.07” S, 48°33’53.15” W, 30.Oct.2017, Pennsylvania trap, Ribeiro, J.M.F. leg. (alcohol; MPEG). GoogleMaps

Paratype. 1 male, same data as holotype (alcohol; UERR) GoogleMaps .

Distribution: Brazil (Pará, type locality only).

Etymology. The epithet “jamevu” refers to a popular oral statement with invariant gender used by the inhabitants of Pará State (“já me vu” = I’m leaving) to emphasize that the speaker is leaving.
