Vesperus propinquus Peters, 1872
Peters, W.C.H. (1872) Mittheilung über neue Flederthiere ( Phyllorhina micropus, Harpyiocephalus Huttonii , Murina grisea , Vesperugo micropus , Vesperus (Marsipolaemus) albigularis , Vesperus propinquus , tenuipinnis ) Monatsberichte der Königlich Preussischen Akademie der Wissenschaften zu Berlin, 1872: 262 [256–263].
Valid name: Eptesicus nilssonii (Keyserling & Blasius, 1839)
Syntypes (both marked with type *): ZMB 2704 View Materials [a–b] (two specimens), bodies in alcohol, skulls extracted, females; unknown locality; presumably collected by J. Sievers, donated by Schaum .
Comment: Both ZMB 2704 View Materials specimens are annotated in the general catalogue as being the original specimens of the description. Furthermore, the following note was entered by Peters: “Wurde mir von Prof. Schaum mit anderen Gegenständen von J. Sievers als von Guatemala stammend übergeben; die Fledermäuse waren in einem besonderen Glase” [“… donated by Prof. Schaum … from Guatemala ”]. However, Peters was obviously in doubt of the alleged origin of the two individuals, because he later canceled their origin “Isabel/ Guatemala ”, thus the provenance of the syntypes remains uncertain .
