Phyllorhina doriae Peters, 1871 View in CoL
Peters, W.C.H. (1871) Über die Gattungen und Arten der Hufeisennasen, Rhinolophi. Monatsberichte der Königlich Preussischen Akademie der Wissenschaften zu Berlin, 1871: 326[301–332].
Valid name: Hipposideros doriae ( Peters, 1871)
Holotype: ZMB 4007 View Materials a, body in alcohol, skull extracted, male, subadult; Sarawak, Borneo, Malaysia; collected by Doria, between 1865 and 1867.
Comment: As mentioned in Benda (2000: 143), two specimens (in alcohol) are catalogued under ZMB 4007 View Materials . However, at the time of the species description only one specimen was available since Peters (p. 327) wrote: “Das einzige mir vorliegende Exemplar ist ein Männchen [The only available specimen is a male], …”. He provided measurements for it and its inventory number ZMB 4007 View Materials . There is no evidence for the existence of further specimens in Peters’ description. The second specimen ZMB 4007 View Materials [b] was added later to the alcohol jar and does not represent a paralectotype as designated by Benda (2000). The specimen ZMB 4007 View Materials a identified as a holotype [fixed by monotypy] is the same individual that Benda designated as the lectotype.
