( Fig. 217)

Description. Forewings 2.1 times longer than wide, length: male 4.8–5.3 mm (mean = 5.0, n= 3), female about 4.4 mm. Facial carinae without traces of orange. Forewings with a small infuscated mark around last subcostal sector, apart from the marks in the basal third of the wing which are also found in other members of this species group. Forewings with Ms1 branching distad of apex of basal median cell; base of Ms1a not connected to M by a crossvein, instead a small triangle at base of Ms1. Apical part of male aedeagus large, tapering towards end; two large processes, each with numerous branches arising from the dorsal side; the right one partly overlapping the left one.

Etymology. The species name is a Latin adjective (ramosus, -a, -um = branched).

Type material. Holotype ♂ (forewing 5.3 mm), INDONESIA: SUMATRA; labels: 1) Fort de Kock / (Sumatra) 920M/ 1925/ leg. E. Jacobson ( RMNH) . Paratypes. Same data as holotype but 1924, 2 ♂ (fw. 2x4.8) 1 ♀ (fw. 4.4) ( RMNH) .

Distribution. Sumatra.

Diagnosis. Rhotana ramosa is externally indistinguishable to R. fera sp. nov. and R. pacata sp. nov. from Borneo, as well as to R. tridentata sp. nov. from West Malaysia. The males can be easily recognized by the large, branched processes on the apical part of the aedeagus.
