Description. Forewings 2.1 times longer than wide, length in male 3.0– 3.4 mm (mean = 3.2, n = 50). A red mark above eyes. Forewings without a red mark around last subcostal sector; veins in faintly infuscated parts of variable coloration between orange-brown (holotype) to stramineous; last subcostal sector tinted with orange, veins around junction of M-Ms3 dark. Forewings with Sc+R fork near middle of wing; basal median cell broad, more than twice a wide as basal cell between Sc+R and M; a small triangle at base of Ms1. Male genitalia with pygofer narrow. Genital styles elongated; proximal dorsal process short and narrow, distal dorsal process long. Stem of aedeagus with a prominent flat process, arising from - and parallel to the stem; apical portion with two short, rounded, overlapping lobes.
Note. Very similar to Saccharodite scissa sp. nov. The above description has been shortened, due to this similarity.
Etymology. The species name is a Latin adjective (foliatus, -a, -um = leafy).
Type material. Holotype ♂ (forewing 3.4 mm), EAST MALAYSIA: NORTH BORNEO: SABAH; labels: 1) BRITISH N. BORNEO / Tawau, Quoin Hill / 15–20.VII.1962 2) H. Holtmann / Light Trap / BISHOP ( BPBM) . Paratypes. EAST MALAYSIA: NORTH BORNEO: SABAH: Tawau, Quoin Hill , 3–20,26– 29. VII .1962, 20♂ (fw. 3.0, 3x 3.2, 11x 3.3, 3.4), light trap, H. Holtmann; Cocoa Res. Sta ., 225 m, 20.VIII.1962, 3– 6,14,17,19,23,24,26,29. IX.1962, 1,3. X.1962, 42 ♂ (fw. 2x 3.0, 6x 3.1, 9x 3.2, 13x 3.3, 2x 3.4), light and Malaise trap, Y. Hirashima; Forest Camp, 19 km N. of Kalabakan , 19,30. X.1962, 1 ♂ (fw. 3.2), K.J. Kuncheria (all BPBM) .
Distribution. North Borneo.
Diagnosis. Saccharodite foliata is closely related to Sa. scissa sp. nov., also from Borneo. The males can be easily recognized by the large flat process arising from the aedeagus stem.
