Redescription. Forewings 2.3 times longer than wide, length about 3.2 mm. Colour stramineous to light brown; margins of facial carinae and tibiae of middle- and hind legs faintly tinted with orange. Forewings nearly colourless; an infuscated mark around base of first subcostal sector, a faint mark at hindmargin just distad of apex of Cu, and a very faint mark around fork M-Ms4; veins stramineous, costa faintly tinted with orange. Hindwings colourless, veins stramineous. Rostrum surpassing hind coxae. Forewings with Ms3 very short, not connected by a crossvein to M or Ms2; instead a cross-vein between M and Ms2. Male genitalia with genital styles widening towards end, which is truncated; proximal dorsal process short; distal dorsal process elongated, widening towards tip. Aedeagus with stem slightly swollen before apical part; apical part ending in two dorsal short, pointed processes (their tips diverging), and a ventral rounded lobe.
Etymology. The species name is a Latin adjective ( nigropunctatus , -a, -um = with black dots).
Type material. Lectotype ♂ (here designated) (forewing 3.2 mm) INDONESIA: JAVA; labels: 1) TYPE OF / M. hyalina / Muir 2) Java 3) Mecynorhynchus / hyalinus/ 660 Muir ( BPBM).
Note. Muir described this species from an unspecified number of male specimens from "Bendoredjo, Java ". As he did not indicate how many specimens he studied we designate the only available syntype as lectotype.
Distribution. Java.
Diagnosis. Sumangala nigropunctata is characterized by the narrow forewings, which have a very short third median sector, as well as by the diverging tips of the apical processes of the male aedeagus.
