Etymology. The specific name is derived from the Latin word for awl (subula) in reference to the awl-shaped subtegular apophysis.
Diagnosis. The male of Mimetus subulatus n. sp. differs from those of all other Mimetus species by the awlshaped subtegular apophysis and the short tibia which is almost equal to, or is at least not much longer than, the cymbium ( Figs 4G, H View FIGURE 4 , 7C, D View FIGURE 7 ). The female of M. subulatus n. sp. is similar to that of M. niveosignatus n. sp. but differs by the middle chambers of the spermathecae being longer than the lateral ones (to the contrary in M. niveosignatus ) (compare Figs 6C, D View FIGURE 6 , 8B View FIGURE 8 and Figs 17E View FIGURE 17 , 19B View FIGURE 19 ).
Description. Male (Holotype). Habitus as in Fig. 4A View FIGURE 4 . Total length 2.14. Carapace 0.99 long, 0.86 wide. Opisthosoma 1.22 long, 1.25 wide. Sternum 0.55 long and 0.47 wide. Labium wider than long. Clypeus height 0.18. Eye sizes and interdistances: AME 0.10, ALE 0.08, PME 0.09, PLE 0.08, AME–AME 0.03, ALE–AME 0.04, PME–PME 0.04, PME–PLE 0.05. MOA 0.09 long, anterior width 0.04, posterior width 0.06. Leg measurements see Table 1.
Cephalothorax: Carapace ( Fig. 4A, C View FIGURE 4 ) yellow, long oval, longer than wide, widest at coxae II and III; with a dark brown pattern between ocular area and fovea, slightly constricted at the position of half length; fovea inconspicuous. Sternum yellowish. Labium reddish brown. Chelicerae ( Fig. 8C, D View FIGURE 8 ) reddish brown, with six promarginal peg teeth and two retromarginal teeth. Endites deep brown, longer than wide. Leg color similar to carapace, with irregular dark stripes ( Fig. 4I, J View FIGURE 4 ).
Abdomen ( Fig. 4A, D View FIGURE 4 ): deep brown, approximately tetrahedral, as long as wide, widest in the medial region; dorsum covered irregularly with many whitish dots.
Pedipalp ( Figs 4E–H View FIGURE 4 , 7A–D View FIGURE 7 ): tibia approximately as long as cymbium, slightly swollen distally, with a few long macrosetae. Cymbium with many especially long setae dorsally, with apex strongly extended to form a bowlshaped outgrowth. Paracymbium broad, triangular. Subtegular apophysis long and sharp, awl-shaped. Sclerotized area of conductor complex, whorled and rolls up to form several apophyses including one protecting the apical end of embolus. Tip of membranous area of conductor with pilose cuticular projections ( Fig. 3B View FIGURE 3 ). Embolus tubular, strongly curved around the membranous area of conductor and forming ca. 3/4 circle, proximally swollen.
Female (Paratype, Mime-0123-HNU). Similar to male in general features; more prominent blackish spots than male ( Fig. 5A View FIGURE 5 ). Total length 2.28; Prosoma 0.95 long, 0.79 wide; Abdomen 1.27 long, 1.34 wide. Sternum 0.50 long, 0.48 wide. Labium wider than long. Clypeus 0.15 high. Eye sizes and interdistances: AME 0.09, ALE 0.08, PME 0.07, PLE 0.07, AME–AME 0.03, ALE–AME 0.05, PME–PME 0.05, PME–PLE 0.05. MOA anterior width 0.03, posterior width 0.05, length 0.07. Leg measurements see Table 2.
Cephalothorax: Carapace ( Fig. 5A–D View FIGURE 5 ) yellow, with a broad reddish-brown pattern medially. Sternum yellow. Labium reddish brown. Chelicerae ( Fig. 8E, F View FIGURE 8 ) reddish brown, with six promarginal peg teeth (the basal one broken and lost) and two retromarginal teeth.
Abdomen ( Fig. 5A–C View FIGURE 5 ): Brown, interspersed by numerous dark-gray and white spots dorsally and ground color grey.
Epigynum ( Figs 6 A–F View FIGURE 6 , 8A, B View FIGURE 8 ): atrium reduced, divided into two parts, with arc-shaped anterior margins. Basal plate sclerotized, twice as wide as long, slightly divided into two swollen parts ( Figs 6A View FIGURE 6 , 8A View FIGURE 8 ), with the posterior margin straight. Copulatory openings and copulatory ducts inconspicuous. Medial spermathecal chambers long oval, close to each other, lateral chambers spherical. Fertilization ducts lightly sclerotized, originating at the junction of the medial and the lateral spermathecal chambers. ( Fig. 6E, F View FIGURE 6 ).
Distribution. China (Guangdong, Hunan) ( Fig. 23 View FIGURE 23 ).
