(Figs. 104–112, 131, 132, 162)
Holotype (male). [ Brazil]. Canindé do S[ão] F[rancis]co (SE), (Faz[enda] Poço Verde), 25.III.2000, am.1, Iannuzzi, L. col. (Malaise); Projeto Xingó Biodiversidade Área 3 ( MZSP).
Paratypes: Canindé do S. Fco. (SE), (Faz. Brejo), 15.IV.2000, am.1, Iannuzzi, L. col. (Malaise); Projeto Xingó Biodiversidade Área 5 (1 ex.) ( UFPE). Olho d´água do Casado (AL) (Faz. Talhado), 30.XI.2000, am.4, idem, (Malaise); idem, Área 6 (2 exs) ( UFPE, MZSP).
Holotype (male). Body length: 10.3 mm.
General integument reddish-brown with elytra slightly clearer than pronotum; femora yellowish; antennae clearer apicad; antennomeres III–X yellowish laterodistally. Pubescence fine, long, dense, yellowish-white.
Frons (Fig. 106) narrow, moderately convex; anterior margin slightly prominent, rounded and upwards; punctation weak, coarse and very dense; secondary carina present. Antenna (Fig. 104) not reaching hind angles of pronotum, subserrate from antennomere III; antennomere II elongate, shorter than III; antennomeres III and IV similar; antennomeres III–IX elongate with lateral rounded prominence.
Pronotum (Fig. 105) slightly wider than long, moderately convex; densely micropunctate intermingled with sparse punctation moderately coarse and weak; lateral margins strongly rounded; hind angles wide, backwardly directed, without distinct carina, only lateral carina wider in this area; lateral carina not reaching anterior margin. Hypomeron with punctation very fine and dense intermingled with punctation weak and coarse, denser near fore angles and lateral margin. Pronotosternal suture straight, not forming anterior channel. Prosternum with punctation fine and dense; prosternal spine flattened laterally with truncate apex. Metacoxal plate strongly narrowed at lateral half. Leg (Fig. 107): tibial spurs present (Fig. 131); tarsal claws (Fig. 132) with a median sharpened tooth. Scutellum pentagonal, longer than wide, narrowed anteriad. Elytral base almost as wide as base of pronotum and slightly widened near basal area; striae grooved with punctation very coarse and deep; interstices convex; apices narrowed and conjointly rounded; striae 2 and 3 not reaching apex; last interstice carinate at apex; carina runs parallel apical margin.
Paratypes (Fig. 162). Body length: 8.9–9.4 mm.
Male.Tegite VIII (Fig. 108) wider than long, narrow, bumerang-like with moderately short setae near anterior margin. Sternite VIII (Fig. 110) wider than long, band-like with distal margin prominent and strongly notched at middle forming two well developed median lobes; setae moderately long on distal third (more basal represented by punctures). Tergite IX (Fig. 109) wider than long, gradually narrowed apicad; distal margin widely notched; few laterodistal setae moderately short; tergite X wider than long, gradually narrowed apicad; inserted at tergite IX apex; apice rounded; microspines near distal margin. Aedeagus (Figs. 111, 112): basal piece wider than long, as wide as parameres. Parameres separated, declivous at base, narrowed laterally on distal fourth; apex wide and inclined truncated; one seta dorsal and one ventral near apex. Median lobe (excluding basal struts) 0.60 time parameres length; wide, gradually narrowed to apex; apex rounded.
FIGURES 157–162. Horistonotus (habitus dorsal): 157, H. angustifrons ; 158, H. caatinguensis ; 159, H. delicatus ; 160, H. nordestinus ; 161, H. tricarinatipennis ; 162, H. xingoensis .
Etymology. The specific epithet is a derivative of the Portuguese word “Xingó”, the name of the Project during which the material was collected.
Remarks. H. xingoensis is easily recognized especially by lateral margins of pronotum strongly rounded and presence of one carina at elytral apex. It is similar to H. tricarinatipennis , but H. xingoensis has antennomeres IX slightly wider, lateral margins of pronotum strongly rounded, only one interstice carinate and parameres of aedeagus with apex wide and truncate.
Distribution. Brazil: Alagoas and Sergipe.
