Holotype (male). Body length: 3.2 mm.
Integument dark-brown, extremely shiny; elytra slightly dull, clearer, brownish-yellow; antennae dark-brown, antennomeres I and II clearer; legs yellowish except femur, dark-brown; scutellum slightly darker than elytra. Pubescence very fine, long, yellowish-white, moderately dense not masking integument.
Frons ( Fig. 123 View FIGURES 123 – 127 ) convex, wide; anterior margin raised (marginate), very prominent and rounded at middle; punctation well marked, moderately coarse and moderately dense; secondary carina present. Antennae ( Fig. 30 View FIGURES 30 – 46 ) densely setose, slightly longer than hind angles of pronotum in male; subserrate; antennomere II elongate, cylindrical, shorter and wider than III and narrower than I; antennomere III narrower and almost of same length of IV; antennomeres IV–X slightly widened apicad with prominent angle rounded.
Pronotum ( Figs. 31 View FIGURES 30 – 46 , 125 View FIGURES 123 – 127 ) wider than long (length including hind angles), slightly narrowed near hind angles base and more strongly narrrowed anteriorly; punctation well marked, moderately coarse and moderately dense, denser laterally; moderately convex; lateral margins slightly rounded, carinate in more than a half of pronotum length; carina finer anteriorly; hind angles wide ventrally, backwardly directed with carina each side. Hypomeron ( Fig. 32 View FIGURES 30 – 46 ) with punctation well marked, coarse and moderately sparse. Pronotosternal suture not forming anterior channel. Prosternum with punctation moderately coarse and sparse, finer than hypomeron; prosternal spine grooved longitudinal medially at base. Scutellum ( Figs. 33 View FIGURES 30 – 46 , 126 View FIGURES 123 – 127 ) longer than wide; lateral margins slightly concave; anterior margin almost straight. Metacoxal plate ( Fig. 35 View FIGURES 30 – 46 ) very wide in internal 2/3, strongly narrowed at external third. Leg: tibia with two tibial spurs ( Fig. 34 View FIGURES 30 – 46 ); tarsal claws ( Fig. 124 View FIGURES 123 – 127 ) slightly widened mesally near apex, strongly widened from base forming a wide rounded tooth near base. Last ventrite of male ( Fig. 36 View FIGURES 30 – 46 ) transverse with apex widely rounded. Elytra ( Fig. 127 View FIGURES 123 – 127 ) slightly wider than pronotal base, with apices narrowed and conjointly rounded; punctate-striated; striae slightly grooved and well marked by row of very coarse punctures; interstices slightly convex.
Paratypes (Fig. 159). Body length: 2.5–3.6 mm.
Male. Tergite VIII ( Fig. 39 View FIGURES 30 – 46 ) wider than long, slightly narrowed from base to apex; lateral and anterior margins strongly rounded; setae moderately long near distal half of anterior margin and median region. Sternite IX ( Fig. 40 View FIGURES 30 – 46 ) elongate, elliptical; distal margin rounded with moderately long setae. Aedeagus ( Figs. 37, 38 View FIGURES 30 – 46 ): basal piece wider than long, wider than parameres base. Parameres separated, twice median lobe (excluding basal struts) length; narrowed laterally at extremities; apex sharpened and outwardly directed; subapical region narrowed, slightly curved with dorsal and ventral long setae; apex sharpened. Median lobe slightly wider at base, constricted near apex; apex rounded.
Female. Apex of ovipositor ( Fig. 41 View FIGURES 30 – 46 ) with setae of varied sizes and short one-segmented styli, each with one long and one short seta; bursa copulatrix ( Fig. 46 View FIGURES 30 – 46 ) with one distal ( Figs. 42–43 View FIGURES 30 – 46 ) and one pair of proximal ( Figs. 44, 45 View FIGURES 30 – 46 ) sclerotizes pieces.
Etymology. The specific epithet is a derivative of the Latim word delicatus (= delicate), referring to the minute size of the body.
Remarks. H. delicatus is easily recognized especially by the combination of very small size and dark and shiny coloration with lighter and dull elytra. Additionally, it presents pubescence very fine, antennae narrow with antennomeres II and III elongate and tooth of tarsal claws basal, wide and rounded and parameres with apex sharpened and outwardly directed.
Distribution. Brazil: Alagoas and Sergipe.
