Saprobic on submerged decaying wood. Sexual morph: Undetermined. Asexual morph: Colonies brown to black, effuse, hairy. Setae absent. Conidiophores macronematous, mononematous, cylindrical, straight or slightly sinuous, unbranched, septate, dark brown to black, subhyaline to hyaline towards apex, smooth-walled, arising directly on substrate, 259–315 μm long (x = 287 μm, SD = 28, n = 10), 8–10 μm wide (x = 9 μm, SD = 1, n = 10). Conidiogenous cells integrated, terminal, later becoming intercalary, monophialidic or polyphialidic with up to two lateral openings, with hyaline to subhyaline collarette. Conidia 9.5–12.5 μm long (x = 11 μm, SD = 1.5, n = 30), 3.5–4.5 μm wide, (x = 4 μm, SD = 0.5, n = 30), cylindrical, rounded at apex, slightly narrower and obtuse at base, 1-septate, not constricted at septum, hyaline, smooth.

Notes: Cylindrotrichum clavatum is found on submerged wood in fresh water habitats in France, and this species ( Fig. 3 ) was treated in detail by Réblová et al. (2011).
