Yanga andriana ( Distant, 1899) View in CoL View at ENA
Platypleura andriana Distant 1899: 476 View in CoL . ( Madagascar)
Remarks.—One of five species with ochraceous hind wings marked with piceous-brown or castaneous. It can be distinguished from Y. bouvieri Distant, 1905b by the basal piceous brown hind wings, hind wing apical cells 1–3 are not completely piceous brown in Yanga grandidieri Distant, 1905b and Y. guttulata ( Signoret, 1860) , and the castaneous covers most of hind wing apical cell 6, there is piceous brown on the hind wing margin and in distal anal cell 2 in Yanga mahajangaensis n. sp. Body length is 32–35 mm, wingspan is 110–115 mm ( Distant 1899). Indigenous people use the species as a food source ( Randrianandrasana & Berenbaum 2015). The song is a continuous train of syllables with peak energy about 5.1 kHz which sounds like a whistle with several harmonics ( Boulard 1999; 2006b).
Distribution.—The species has been reported from Madagascar and the Seychelles ( Metcalf 1963a; Sanborn 2013) but the Seychelles record is a misidentification of Sechellana seychellensis ( Distant, 1912a) ( Boulard 2010) . Jacobi (1917) reported the species from Tulear, southwestern Madagascar and Nosy-Be. Boulard (1999) reported the species from the savannah in Alluaudia d’Ampitanabo.
