Remarks.—The second of three species with a body length less than 37 mm and wingspan greater than 110 mm. Body length is about 35 mm, wingspan is about 135 mm ( Karsch 1890). It can be distinguished further from P. gigas and P. strix by the piceous scutal depression, the timbal colors being the same color as the abdominal tergites, and the dense pile on the abdominal tergites.
Distribution.—The species is only known from Madagascar ( Metcalf 1963a; Duffels & van der Laan 1985; Sanborn 2013; 2020).
